Dynamic Positioning (DP) refers to a technology that maintains the position of the ship or floating platform by controlling the propellers by the shipboard computer automatic control system without anchoring. It uses sophisticated and advanced instruments to measure the displacement and direction changes of ships or platforms due to wind, waves and currents, processes and calculates the information in real time through automatic control systems such as computers, and automatically controls the propulsion in several different directions. The thrust size and moment of the device can restore the ship or platform to its original position. Compared with the traditional mooring method, the DP system is a perfect combination of modern computer technology and automatic control theory. It is one of the key technologies for deep sea development. "Runneng 168" currently uses the Kongsberg DP2 system.

The successful entry of "Runneng 168" into the DP ship database of the Nautical Institute marks that "Runneng 168" has been recognized by this institution and has become an internationally recognized DP ship. In addition, Jiangsu Green Ocean Engineering Co., Ltd., the owner of "Runneng 168", can be used as a DPO practice base to provide strong support for the development of the country's offshore engineering field.
As a non-governmental organization, the Nautical Institute is a well-known professional organization in the international maritime field. It is also the first recognized organization in the world to accept and issue DP certificates.
